Your long-awaited home renovation starts next week, and that means you need to clear every closet, cabinet and countertop before the crew shows up. Or, maybe your construction team arrives Monday, and that inventory can’t keep sitting on your jobsite exposed to weather and wandering hands.
Either way, you’ve decided you need a storage container. Now what? Here’s a walk-through of the delivery process.
4 Steps to Get a Storage Container Delivered
Pro Box Portable Storage’s storage container delivery process breaks down into four straightforward stages, and each one builds on the last, so nothing catches you off-guard on delivery day.
1. Storage Selection and Quoting
To get a storage container delivered, start with a quick call or fill out our online quote form. Both routes end in the same destination, so pick whichever fits your schedule better.
As a homeowner, you’ll likely share:
- Your delivery address
- What you’re planning to store
- How long you’re renting
- Where on the property you’d like the container to be
Contractors and business owners may add a few more details to the mix:
- Jobsite address
- Number of containers needed
- Access considerations, such as gates, active crews and limited maneuvering space
You can choose 10′, 15′, 20′, 25′ and 40′ storage containers, and our team will be happy to help you decide on the best fit if you need advice. Specify which direction you’d like the easy-to-open doors to face, so the driver knows how to position the unit onsite. If you want add-ons like shelves, pipe racks or ramps, mention that too.
Once you confirm your order details, the logistics are someone else’s responsibility. Standard delivery is one to three business days from the time you place your order, and same-day or next-day delivery is sometimes available, depending on your location and the truck schedule.
2. Site Preparation
Clearance needs depend on your container size.
- 10′ to 15′ containers: 60′ of length clearance and 12’9″ of vertical clearance
- 20′ to 25′ containers: 75′ of length clearance and vertical clearance runs 12’9″ for containers up to 20′ and 16’7″ for anything larger
- 30′ to 40′ containers: 125′ of length clearance and 16’7″ of vertical clearance
Every size also needs at least 10′ of width clearance so the truck can maneuver into place.
You usually won’t have to prepare the ground because the container rests only on its four corners. Gravel, grass, concrete, asphalt and firm dirt will work, as long as the surface is reasonably level. If the ground is not level, we can place down blocks under the container to correct it.
You should check for power lines, low branches and roof overhangs near your delivery spot, and mention any of these to the team when you book so they can plan the approach accordingly. On jobsites, also watch for scaffolding that might sit in the truck’s path on the way in.
3. Driver Arrival and Container Placement
Every driver holds a commercial driver’s license and every delivery is scheduled by our in-house team, which means the schedule stays in Pro Box Portable Storage’s hands from start to finish. On your delivery day, the driver will:
- Arrive during your scheduled window
- Confirm the placement spot with you or your site contact
- Walk the path to check for last-minute obstacles
- Back the tilt-bed trailer into position
- Lower the container onto the surface and adjust leveling blocks as needed
4. Leveling and Door Check
The driver will put the container in the agreed-upon spot, place leveling blocks under the corners if the surface isn’t perfectly flat and confirm the doors open and close smoothly before heading out. You don’t need to do anything during this part except confirm the door direction with your driver, since it’s nearly impossible to adjust after the container is in place.
Once your container is level, you can start loading it. Our rental containers feature the patented Pro Vault Locking System®, giving furniture, seasonal items and renovation materials vault-like security. Contractors and business owners follow the same process on the jobsite. The container is ready for you to use the moment the driver pulls away. This speedy storage container delivery timeline gets you back to work fast.
Frequently Asked Questions
Still have a few questions about how storage container rental works? Here are the answers to concerns many homeowners and contractors have.
How Long Does Storage Container Delivery Take?
Storage container delivery takes one to three business days from the time you place your order, which aligns with many people’s expectations. Once your driver arrives, they’ll quickly handle placement so you can start loading right away.
Do I Need to Be Home or Onsite When My Container Arrives?
It’s best to have a responsible adult available to receive the locking system and paperwork when your container gets there. However, if that’s not possible, you can schedule a “no-one-home delivery” in advance, so you don’t have to rearrange your routine on a busy day.
What About HOA Rules and Local Permits?
You are responsible for checking these guidelines before scheduling a container delivery. Review your covenants, conditions and restrictions first. Many HOAs allow temporary containers for renovations or home projects with advance notice, though placement duration and appearance rules vary from one community to the next. As for permits, containers on private property are often exempt from municipal requirements. However, a quick call to your local zoning department before delivery day is still a smart move, since rules can vary depending on where the container sits.
